Finland-based stainless steel producer Outokumpu has appointed a new executive vice-president for group sales and marketing, the company tells Steel Business Briefing.

Kari Parvento will replace Bo Annvik in the role from 1 May 2010 at the latest and will also become a member of the company's executive committee. Parvento will initially be based in Finland, but will relocate to the group sales and marketing head office in Brussels during 2010. Annvik has been fulfilling the role temporarily since February alongside his position as executive vice-president for specialty stainless.

Parvento is currently managing director of Sandvik Mining & Construction in Finland and is also responsible for Sandvik's underground hard and soft rock mining businesses.

“I am very pleased to have Kari as our new colleague at the executive committee. He comes with very solid experience in running global sales and marketing operations. I am confident he will be able to take the lead in implementing our commercial strategy,” says Outokumpu's chief executive Juha Rantanen.
