Fatigue- the condition causing fracture of a metal under repeated stresses with a maximum value less than the tensile strength of the material.

Ferrite- The solid solution of carbon in body centered cubic iron.

Ferrous- relating to iron.  Ferrous Alloys are Iron based for example.

Fettling- The removal of burrs

Filler Metal- A material, aside from parent materials, used in fusion or braze welding.  Filler material is commonly different from parent materials but does not necessarily have to be so.

Flash Welding- A resistance butt welding method that produces a weld at the faying surfaces of a butt joint by application of pressure and heat produced by electric arcs between the two materials.

Foil- Metal in sheet form less than 0.006" thick

Forging- Plastically deforming metal, normally at elevated temperatures, into required shapes using compressive force, performed with or without dies.

Fracture- the appearance of a break in the surface of a metal

Fusion Welding- Any welding process utilising fusion to complete the weld.
