Deburring- the removal of sharp rough edges of processed material following cutting or machining by filing.
Decarburisation- occurs at very high temperatures when the surface carbon in the steel reacts with the oxygen in the furnace atmosphere.
Deoxidation- the removal of oxygen or other undesired element by heat treating in a reducing atmosphere.
Direct Quenching-the process of quenching directly from the austenising temperature, the most commonly used practice.
Drawing- reducing the cross section of a wire or tube by pulling through a die.
Drop Hammer Forging-a process for producing shapes by the progressive deformation of metal in matched dies under repetitive blows of a gravity drop hammer.
Ductility- the capacity of a metal to deform plastically and be reshaped without fracturing/breaking.
